Townsville, QLD – December 2018 – Huntsman Aus Pty Ltd (Huntsman) announces that the Australian Department of Defence has granted the company Australian Community Membership pursuant to section 27 of the Defence Trade Controls Act 2012 effective from 21 December 2018.
The Australian Community, or “Approved Community” consists of Government and Private Sector entities that can export certain U.S. ITAR controlled items in a more streamlined manner as part of the U.S. – Australia Defense Trade Cooperation Treaty.
As an Approved Australian Community member, Huntsman will value add to Government Clientele partnerships by providing an ability for rapid capability acquisition through access to US Defence Technologies in a more efficient manner.
Huntsman now has the capacity to streamline and expedite collaboration, development and supply of US Defence Technologies for approved Government procurement.
Inclusion into the Approved Community recognises that the Huntsman facility’s Physical Security and Information and Communication Technology system have been accredited by Defence for the purposes of admission.
The U.S. – Australia Defense Trade Cooperation Treaty was signed in 2007.
The Treaty supports the longstanding alliance between the United States and Australia by facilitating industry collaboration and innovation, allowing the United States and Australian troops to get the best technology in the fastest way possible to meet shared security challenges.
Australia is one of the United States’ top defense trading partners.
The Treaty is designed to further enhance the US – Australian bilateral defense partnership.
The Treaty also supports Australian defense industries’ ability to team with U.S. partners, or directly bid on U.S. Government proposals.
